Oracle Database 12c: Plug Into the Cloud
ntroducing Oracle Database 12c—the world's first database designed for the cloud.
Over successive releases of Oracle Database, Oracle continues to ease our customers' efforts to standardize, consolidate, and automate database services on the cloud. What started more than a decade ago with pioneering features like Oracle Real Application Clusters and Oracle Automatic Storage Management now continues with Oracle Multitenant, which enables IT to tap fully into the benefits of the cloud, including resource sharing, management flexibility, and cost savings.
Plug into the Cloud with Oracle Multitenant
Database consolidation is a key step in the journey to the cloud. Oracle Database 12c makes the process far faster and simpler, enabling the high density of schema-based consolidation—without requiring changes to existing applications.
To make this possible, a single, multitenant container database can now host many "pluggable" databases. Each database that is consolidated or "plugged into" the multitenant container looks and feels to applications exactly the same as the preconsolidated version. Besides speeding the journey to cloud, consolidation also simplifies management—a huge advantage for organizations now managing hundreds, even thousands, of databases.
Automate and Optimize the Information Lifecycle
When managing the lifecycle of information, a typical company will manually move and compress the data across different storage tiers based largely on the age of data.
Oracle Database 12c changes the game with automatic data optimization, which monitors not just the age but also the usage or "temperature" of data, then automatically moves data between different storage and compression tiers accordingly.
Maximum Availability and Database Security
With more than 500 new features, Oracle Database 12c is designed to give Oracle customers exactly what they’ve told us they need for cloud computing, big data, security, and availability.
